SERGEANT BLUFF-LUTON COMMUNITY SCHOOL FOUNDATION

Background: In 2008, the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School Foundation was established in partnership with the Siouxland Community Foundation.

Mission: The Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School Foundation will generate resources to help assist in the development of world-class learners and to help the students of Sergeant Bluff-Luton Schools to become responsible citizens.

Purpose: The purpose of the Foundation is to provide funding that supports its mission and to ensure that Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community Schools remain a leader in the State of Iowa by providing the students a unique learning experience. This experience can be obtained by utilizing the latest technology, building a curriculum path for every student and creating enhanced educational opportunities. The Foundation will also provide an avenue for community, staff, and alumni to preserve and enhance the district. This support will take the form of scholarships, mini-grants, memorials, and endowment contributions.

The following members of the Advisory Board are responsible for governing the Foundation.

Gifts to the Foundation can be made in a variety of methods, including:
• Annual Gifts – annual giving to help support projects for teachers and students in that school year

• Endow or Establish – a scholarship fund to assist graduating Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School   seniors
• Sponsor a Mini-Grant – a gift of $500 to sponsor a teacher mini-grant
• Memorial Gift – to honor deceased loved ones or friends
• Planned Giving – a donation through a bequest, trust, gift annuity, or life insurance
• Wish List – a donation designated to purchase a specific item on the "Wish List"

GRANT PROGRAMS FOR TEACHERS

Application Deadlines: January 15 and/or April 15

The Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School Foundation strongly believes that our children are the future and that quality education is of paramount importance to their success.

To that end, the Foundation has led fundraising efforts to establish a fund known as the Education Enhancement Fund. Grants are awarded from the Fund to provide financial resources to teachers typically not available through traditional school or district sources.

The purpose of the Grant Programs is to assist teachers by providing grants for INNOVATIVE classroom projects that improve student learning and make a positive, long-term impact in the classroom.

All Pre-K to 12th grade teachers and instructional staff that serve the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District are eligible to apply. Grants can include funding for equipment, materials, and activities.

SB-L COMMUNITY SCHOOL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Application Deadline: February 15

PURPOSE: The purpose of the scholarship program is to assist Sergeant Bluff-Luton graduating high school seniors in their pursuit of a post-secondary education. Scholarships are available for:
- students pursuing any post-secondary trade, associate, or academic degree / certification
- students specifically pursuing a 2 year associate degree or trade school certification

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Applicants must be graduating seniors from Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa with a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 (out of 4.0).

SELECTION CRITERIA: Selection of recipients is based on such factors as scholastic performance while in high school, good character, participation in extracurricular school activities, community service, leadership, work history, financial need, and essay evaluation.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: Minimum of $500, not renewable.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Application must be received by the February 15 deadline and must include the following:

• Completed application with signature
• Essay
• Two (2) "Character Counts" recommendations
• High School Certification Form with official high school transcript
